Society for Assistance to Fisherwomen (SAF) Society for Assistance to Fisherwomen (SAF) is an agency under the Department of Fisheries, Government of Kerala was registered under the Travancore- Cochin Literary and Charitable Societies Act on 1st June 2005 with the mandate to work for the empowerment of Fisherwomen across Kerala state. SAF aims to empower fisherwomen in Kerala, emphasizing developing entrepreneurs in alternative livelihood sectors. Each year marginalized fisherwomen were identified, trained, and assisted to start new micro-enterprises for income generation, which in turn helps them to lead a quality life with improved income. •More than 1700 micro-enterprises are currently working sustainably under SAF. •More than 10,000 fisherwomen benefitted under various SAF projects. •Over the years, the sales volume of micro-enterprise units has increased considerably from 46 Crores in 2016-17 to 136 Crores in 2023-24. •Established 1050 JOINT LIABILITY GROUPS benefitting 5250 fisherwomen supported with interest-free working capital revolving Fund. •Established 44 SEAFOOD RESTAURANTS all over Kerala. •Established 40 HYGIENIC REFRIGERATED MOBILE FISH VENDING KIOSKS •Established an APPAREL CONSORTIUM of 12 micro enterprise units. •THEERAMYTHRI MANAGEMENT COUNCILS to ensure field-level monitoring through an institutional mechanism. •SAF ACTIVITY GROUP’S APEX FEDERATION & CATEGORY FEDERATIONS to provide business support to microenterprises. •Financial, Technical & Marketing assistance to ensure the sustainability of microenterprises.
